Meet Your Practitioners

Dr. Katie O'Connor

​Dr. Katie O’Connor was born in London, Ontario. She completed her bachelors degree in Human Kinetics at UBC. She went on to receive her medical degree from McMaster University in 2010, and completed the rural family medicine residency program at UBC in 2012. She values incorporating preventive medicine, exercise and wellness in her family medicine practice.  In her spare time she enjoy exploring in the mountains, and spending time with her family.

Dr. Janet Fisher

NP Melissa Mailey

Dr. Janet Fisher completed her Bachelor of Science in Cellular Biology and Genetics at the University of British Columbia.  She continued at UBC for her Doctor of Medicine and completed her Family Practice Residency in 2003.  She has been practicing medicine in the Trail area since 2005 and enjoys work in both the community and acute settings.  She enjoys being part of this lovely community.

​Melissa Mailey obtained her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of British Columbia Okanagan, followed by a Critical Care Nursing Advanced Specialty Certificate from the British Columbia Institute of Technology. She then completed her Masters of Nursing – Family Nurse Practitioner from the University of British Columbia Vancouver.  After working in the Cardiac Surgery department at St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, where she managed the complex and diverse requirements of postoperative cardiac patients, she has recently moved back to her hometown of Trail B.C.  Prior to this, she was employed in the Cardiac Catheterization Lab and Cardiac inpatient departments at the Kelowna General Hospital. She is excited to be back home again and to provide patient centered care to her community.

Dr. Alex Baxter

​Dr. Alexandria Baxter grew up in Fruitvale and Trail. She completed a General Science Bachelors Degree in Kelowna prior to moving to Victoria to attend medical school. She graduated from UBC with her medical degree in 2011, and then completed her family practice residency from UBC in 2013. She moved home and started practicing at Riverside Family Medicine Clinic permanently in 2015.  She has a young family and enjoys every spare moment playing with them and teaching them to love the mountains and outdoors as much as she does. 

Dr. Erin Love

Dr. Erin Love grew up in Invermere BC, happily in the mountains.  She completed a Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Victoria in Microbiology, then moved to Cambridge, England, to work in various health-related fields and teach dance classes for a number of years.  After this, she returned to Canada to attend medical school at UBC, graduating in 2017.  With a strong interest in rural medicine, she then completed UBC's Rural Residency Program in Family Medicine, and is now gladly settled in this beautiful part of the Kootenays.  She values preventative care, and encourages lifestyle considerations and movement towards a strong sense of self as the first steps of good health.

Dr. Kate Gapp

Dr. Kate Gapp grew up in Calgary and the mountains of Southern Alberta. She completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences and Psychology at Queen's University, then moved westwards to attend medical school at the University of British Columbia. Drawn to this beautiful place and rural practice, she moved to the Kootenays to complete a Residency in Rural Family Medicine and then start a practice. As well as working at Riverside, she is also involved in maternity and pediatrics care at KBRH. In her spare time you'll find Kate hiking, biking, skiing, travelling, practicing yoga and playing guitar. ​
